Registration for the Watershed Clean-up in West Niagara is paused.

There is no alternate watershed cleanup date at present.  The safety of our community members is paramount and Government protocols and directives guide our actions.
Even though it is not possible to register as a volunteer, we are not removing the section below for two reasons.
First, if you are interested in what we had planned this will give you an indication of our preparations to the Grey Zone level.
Second, to assure everyone that the clean-up infrastructure remains in place awaiting the appropriate time in the future to promote a cleanup event.  We don’t know when. Along with you, we are staying safe.

You have two different ways that you can participate.

Group 1

As part of the coordinated event and sign up for a designated site to clean up.

Group 2

You and your close family (no more than 5 people living in the same household) can choose to clean up an area close to your residence that in not on the coordinated clean-up event, and you want us to know about your efforts

A few things we want you to know before you sign up:

The cleanup will happen on April 24th, 2021 in the morning. RAIN OR SHINE!  There are different start times based on locations

Because this event is happening during this time of Covid-19 restrictions, we want everyone to be safe at all time.  We ask everyone to ABIDE BY ALL SAFETY PRECAUTIONS.  This may sound harsh and not like the party atmosphere of prior year cleanups.  However, we can’t stress enough our commitment to everyone’s safety.

  • Everyone must wear a face mask at all times, when participating in the clean up.
  • Everyone must stay in their designated sign-up groups at all times.
  • Everyone must obey the physical distancing regulation as mandated by Niagara Region Public Health Department.
  • Everyone must adhere to the pickup safety guide from the Niagara Region Public Works Dept.
  • The waiver(s) (attached) must be signed and received before you are confirmed as a volunteer.
  • Any children between 6 and 12 years of age must be supervised by a parent or legal guardian at all times. Please do not bring children 6 and under to the event.
  • Individuals between 12 and 18 years of age will require a parental authorization (form provided)
  • No pets allowed. Sorry, but we are all leaving our dogs and pets at home.
  • We will provide you with clear directions about what not to touch (like needles and dead animals) and how to notify us about large or hazardous items you might find.
  • We encourage you to practice sun safety and wear a hat and sun screen.
  • We encourage you to wear the proper dress which includes long pants to avoid tick bites.
  • We will provide you with gloves, but you are welcome to bring your own and if you have tongs or pick-up sticks, please bring them to help pick up the debris.
  • Please do not show up the day of the clean-up and expect to be allocated a site. We need to pre-plan everything to follow the strictest Covid-19 protocols.

What happens if you don’t follow the precautions?

YOU WILL BE ASKED TO LEAVE IMMEDIATELY!

Are you ready to sign-up for a designated site?

Group 1

  1. Pick the location you wish to clean up. There are over 30 different sites within the West Niagara area.  We will be adding more as these initial sites fill up.
  2. Each location tells you the designated area and the start and end time and how many individuals are needed for each cleanup area.
  3. Once that quota is filled, no more individuals will be able to sign up for that location. (That is how we are fulfilling our responsibility to keep you safe!
  4. Once you provide your name, email and phone numbers you can press submit.
  5. After your sign-up is received, you will receive a confirming email with specific information about the area you signed up for, more detailed precautions and how to receive your garbage bags, gloves and safety vests if required for the area you are cleaning up.
  6. Complete the waiver and email it back; and provide us consent (by clicking the box) to collect your information as per the Privacy Policy.

Over the weeks between your sign-up and the event, you will receive confirmation emails of your pick-up location and other information of interest as it comes up.

You will then be ready to enjoy a great day helping make the Great Lakes Watershed a healthier area as well as have a great feeling of accomplishment.

Group 2

  1. Send us an email at glwscleanupwestniagara21@gmail.com and tell us that you would like to clean up a local area.
  2. We will send you an email with a form so you can give us the necessary information.
  3. Once we receive your email, we will put together a clean-up package for you that will include one large garbage bag and one blue recycle bag, a sorting guide, one pair of gloves and a garbage tag so you can put the filled garbage bags out with your home waste on your next collection date.

What’s next?

Over the weeks between your sign-up and the event, you will receive confirmation emails of your pick-up location and other information of interest as it comes up.

You will then be ready to enjoy a great day helping make the Great Lakes Watershed a healthier area as well as have a great feeling of accomplishment.
